Pledges to Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign Due Tomorrow
Old Dominion employees added to the university's Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) fund drive last week to the tune of $5,439, but the university was only at 84 percent of its goal on Monday with only days left in the campaign.
The campaign is scheduled to end on Friday, Dec. 15. Employees who plan to make a CVC contribution are strongly encouraged to turn in their pledge forms today or tomorrow.
Campaign organizers set $113,500 goal as ODU's goal for the 2012 campaign, the state's annual fund drive to benefit thousands of local, state, regional, national and international charities.
"As a university, we would like to meet our goal, of course, but what we are really hoping is that the thousands of charities associated with this campaign are able to get the funds they need to operate," said Karen Meier, assistant vice president for community engagement, who heads the ODU campaign.
"I am sure that there are those out there who, for one reason or another, have not turned in their pledge forms yet, so I am hopeful that they can do so by tomorrow."
Meier recently learned that CVC pledges designated to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, and turned in by Dec. 15, will count toward ODU's total in the Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic Food Drive to benefit Virginia food banks.
The nonprofit Federation of Virginia Food Banks is the official "Cause of the Classic, and encourages citizens and fans to support their favorite university by supporting their local food bank.
