Pairings Set for Women's Basketball NCAA Regional at the Ted
On Tuesday, No. 1-seed Notre Dame and No. 2-seed Duke joined Nebraska and Kansas in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA women's tournament, and are headed to Old Dominion's Ted Constant Convocation Center for the Norfolk Regional.
The matchups will take place on Sunday, March 31, with game one pitting Notre Dame against Kansas, starting at 12:04 p.m., followed by game two at 2:30, Duke versus Nebraska.
Notre Dame (32-1) defeated Iowa, 74-57, to win its 28th-straight game and advance to a fourth consecutive Sweet 16. Senior guard Skylar Diggins leads the Fighting Irish with 16.8 points per game, while junior Kayla McBride averages 16 per game.
Duke (32-2) erased a 15-point second deficit to defeat Oklahoma State, 68-59, to advance. Virginia Beach native and Princess Anne High School graduate Elizabeth Williams led the Blue Devils with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
All four No. 6 seeds advanced to the Sweet 16, including Nebraska, which defeated the 2011 national champion, Texas A&M. Nebraska is 25-8 on the season and is led by junior Jordan Hooper, who averages 18 points per game.
For just the second time in NCAA women's tournament history, a No. 12 seed advanced to the Sweet 16. Kansas (20-13) is the first 12 seed to advance to the Sweet 16 since San Francisco did in 1996.
The winners of the regional semifinal games will face each other in the regional final at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ted.
Single-session tickets for the March 31 or April 2 games are $25 for adults, $15 for youth 17 and under, and $10 for groups of 10 or more. All session ticket books are also available for $35 and $40 for adults and $30 for youth. Fans that purchase the all-session ticket books are eligible to win a pair of tickets to Cirque du Soleil Quidam at the Constant Center, April 10-14.
